Together we will read and analyze the coming weeks’ Torah Portion, while
enjoying a selection of wraps, coffee, soda, and cake. The cost of lunch is
$10 per person, per session. This shiur will also take place virtually (sorry, no
wraps for those joining from home). Register for lunch by calling the synagogue office.
We will be using the Etz Hayim Humash and/or additional commentaries and
interpretations. Participants are encouraged to have their own copy of
Humash Etz Hayim, which can be ordered through the office.

Join Rabbi Kogan for one hour of exciting interactive study.
In each session the participants will study a short rabbinic story from the Talmud or Midrash. After a short explanation of the background to the story, the participants will be invited to explore how the short narrative can relate to their own lives.
You don’t need any previous knowledge to participate in this class. Classes are not sequential (in each class we will analyze a different story) so if you miss a class, feel free to come to the next!

Berakhot is the first tractate of the Babylonian Talmud. The tractate discusses the rules of prayers, particularly the Shema and the Amidah, and blessings for various circumstances.
Since a large part of the tractate is concerned with the many berakhot (English: blessings), all comprising the formal liturgical element beginning with words “Blessed are you, Lord our God….”, it is named for the initial word of these special form of prayer. The Jewish religious laws detailed in this tractate have shaped the liturgies of all the Jewish communities since the later Talmudic period and continue to be observed by traditional Jewish communities until the present.

Join us as we learn Maimonides’ famous introduction to Chapter Chelek, containing his 13 Principles of Faith.
We will use bilingual edition of Moznaim Publishers, and the participants will receive a hard copy of the book, courtesy of Walter and Terri Winter, in memory of Terri’s father, Leonard Zucker – Rabbi Chayim Yehuda Leib ben Harav Yerachmiel Gedaliah & Elka, of blessed memory.
